I am changing up my blog for the next few posts. Each post will:
Introduce a career theme (like clarity, branding, networking, mindset, or strategy),
Offer reflection guidance,
End with action steps or “next moves.”
Every job seeker has a story — but few take the time to craft it intentionally. Your career narrative isn’t just your résumé; it’s the coherent thread that connects your skills, experiences, and motivations into a single, memorable message.
Start by reflecting on three key questions:
What motivates you to work? (Be specific — purpose, recognition, creativity, stability?)
What patterns or themes run through your past experiences?
What transformation do you want your career to represent — for yourself and for others?
As you write, treat your career as a journey rather than a series of jobs. Identify the moments that changed your direction or taught you something essential about who you are professionally. Then, distill these moments into a single sentence that could begin with:
“The common thread in my career is…”
This is your core message. It becomes the foundation for your résumé summary, interview stories, and networking introductions.
Action Steps:
Write your “career narrative paragraph” (5–7 sentences).
Test it by sharing it with a friend or mentor — does it sound authentic and memorable?
Use this narrative to guide how you describe yourself online and in interviews.
