Lead Yourself First: Know When to Reset (May 6, 2026)

Monday's thought from Kevin DeShazo:

“Focus on your actions, your mindset, your intentions, your decisions. Lead yourself first.”

That standard doesn’t change.

But how you apply it has to evolve.

Because there are seasons where discipline feels tight. Where routines are clear. Where progress is visible.

And then there are seasons where things quietly start to drift.

Not because you stopped caring.

Not because you stopped working.

But because you never stopped long enough to reset.

Drift Is Gradual, Not Immediate

You don’t lose alignment overnight.

It happens slowly.

A skipped habit here.
A shifted priority there.
A goal that gets delayed, then quietly moved further down the list.

Over time, you look up and realize you’re not quite where you thought you’d be.

That’s not failure.

That’s awareness.

And awareness is where correction starts.

Self-Leadership Requires a Reset Point

Leading yourself isn’t just about consistency.

It’s about correction when needed.

At some point, you have to stop and ask:

  • What has changed?
  • What still matters most?
  • Where have I drifted without realizing it?

Because the truth is simple:

The person you are today may not be operating with the same focus as the goals you set before.

And ignoring that gap only widens it.

A Reset Is Not Starting Over

This is where people hesitate.

They think a reset means failure or lost progress.

It doesn’t.

A reset is refinement.

It’s alignment.

It’s taking what you’ve learned and applying it with better clarity moving forward.

Nothing wasted. Nothing lost.

Just adjusted.

The Standard Still Stands

Lead yourself first.

But understand that leadership is not static.

It requires regular evaluation.

And the people who grow the most aren’t the ones who never drift.

They’re the ones who notice it early—and reset without hesitation.

The Work This Week

Take a few honest minutes and ask:

  • Where have I drifted?
  • What needs to be realigned?
  • What does a reset look like right now?

Then act on it.

Not later.

Now.

Because self-leadership isn’t about staying perfect.

It’s about staying aware—and willing to adjust when needed.
